The Wild Bird Revolution by Steve Boyes is about sharing awesome images of wild birds from all over the world with the people of the world! Their mission is to build a global community around the freedom and beauty of birds in the wild as ambassadors for the natural ecosystems that they depend upon.
The Wild Bird Revolution aims to publish the “Top 25 Wild Bird Photographs of the Week” to 1 million people every week. That is a revolution that will change the world!
Steve Boyes is a Fellow of the National Geographic Society and a 2013 National Geographic Emerging Explorer for his work in the Okavango Delta and on the Cape Parrot Project. He has dedicated his life to conserving Africa’s wilderness areas and the species that depend upon them. After having worked as a camp manager and wilderness guide in the Okavango Delta and doing his PhD field work on the little-known Meyer’s Parrot, Steve took up a position as a Centre of Excellence Postdoctoral Fellow at the Percy FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology. In 2019 Steve and the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project won the Rolex Explorer of the year
Mountain Birds
Mountains provide habitats for many birds. Mountain ecosystems have adapted to their specific environmental conditions which makes them sensitive to environmental change. Birds that use mountain habitats have adapted to these conditions and are thus also sensitive to environmental change; in many mountain areas habitat change has resulted in the reduction of liveable habitats for many bird species.
Featured here is the Blue-winged Minla from the Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park, Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, close to the border with Burma. This was the same trip as the Leafbird, where we walked up to the Thai border checkpost, and with their permission walked another few meters to the actual border with Myanmar. One step on the other side, for the sake of posterity, and we made our way back into the beautiful mountains of North Thailand.

The blue-winged minla (Actinodura cyanouroptera), also known as the blue-winged siva, is a species of bird in the family Leiothrichidae. It has in the past been placed in the genus Minla and also in the monotypic Siva. It is found in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, ranging across Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Tibet, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
