Ultramarine Flycatcher
The ultramarine or white-browed blue flycatcher is a small arboreal Old World flycatcher in the ficedula family that breeds in the foothills of the Himalayas & winters in southern India. The incandescently beautiful male is resplendent in electric blue and snowy white. The female is a dull gray-brown with paler underparts. It breeds in hill and montane broadleaf & pine forests descending into the lower foothills in winter.

Pale Blue Flycatcher
The pale blue flycatcher (Cyornis unicolor) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. Superficially similar in appearance to the Verditer flycatcher, it is a paler blue, with greyish underparts from throat to vent, and a discontinuous black eye-patch. Both birds can often be found in the same locale. It is found in the subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest & subtropical or tropical moist montane forests of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam.

White-gorgeted Flycatcher
The White-gorgeted is a tiny brown flycatcher with a triangular white bib bordered with black. It has a gray head, a frosty white brow, and ruddy wings & tail which are not as eye-catching as the throat patch, but just as distinctive. It is unobtrusive & retiring, generally keeping to the dense lower levels of foothill forests. It frequently forages in inaccessible gorges and thick stream side vegetation. Usually seen singly, occasionally in pairs.

Rufous-browed Flycatcher
The rufous-browed flycatcher is a unique-looking flycatcher with a gleamingly clean white throat & a strong rusty orange tinge to the brow and forehead. There is an overlap with the closely related White-gorgeted Flycatcher but it lacks that species’s gray face & black border to the white throat patch. It inhabits foothill and montane forests, where it forages close to the ground in lower vegetation.

Black-naped Monarch
The black-naped monarch or black-naped blue flycatcher (Hypothymis azurea) is a slim and agile passerine bird belonging to the family of monarch flycatchers found in southern and south-eastern Asia. They are sexually dimorphic, with the male having a distinctive black patch on the back of the head and a narrow black half collar ("necklace"), while the female is duller with olive brown wings and lacking the black markings on the head. They have a call that is similar to that of the Asian paradise flycatcher, and in tropical forest habitats, pairs may join mixed-species foraging flocks. Populations differ slightly in plumage colour and sizes.

Verditer Flycatcher
The Verditer Flycatcher is a beautifully vivid turquoise-blue flycatcher. The adult male has dark lores while the juvenile is duller, with noticeably grayer underparts. It sits upright on exposed perches when found in lowland and hill forests and forest edges. But these birds do not get their dramatic plumage colour from pigments; instead, this is a structural colour that results from the feather scattering light such that it appears blue.

Siberian Rubythroat
The Siberian rubythroat (Calliope calliope) is a small passerine bird generally considered to be an Old World Flycatcher. The rubythroat and similar small European species are often called chats. A perky, long-legged songbird that winters in areas with dense understory coverage, often near wet areas; it breeds in open taiga and highland forest clearings.

Old World Flycatchers
The Old World #Flycatchers are a large family, the #Muscicapidae, of small passerine birds mostly restricted to the Old World (Europe, Africa and Asia). These are mainly small arboreal insectivores, many of which, as the name implies, take their prey on the wing. The family includes 324 species and is divided into 51 genera.
Featured here are only a few of these beautiful birds I have been fortunate to observe and photograph across various habitats in Asia Pacific.
